Wakeful trees

The rain came in the night. The windows sounding protest against drops as hard as hail. The lightning more witness to the scene. Drink, earth, drink, the thoughts beneath my inner voice coaxed. The thunder resounded, responded. Sleep, child, sleep.

The pecan sleeps.

I was always happy to see the pale chartreuse color as trees started waking up when we lived in New England. Here is Florida, everything is always green.

No deciduous trees at all? Interesting! We have a variety of oak here that stays green all winter. Some years the leaves fall off in the spring, sometimes not.

We’ve got lots of beautiful oak trees here in Vero Beach but they keep their leaves. Perhaps they are the same variety as in your area.
